Have you been feeling weird, wobbly, wild or even more wonderful this past week? Have you noticed some of the aforementioned going on in your circle of influence?
Yes – there is a reason for that. This morning was full moon time. Tomorrow, in Australia we celebrate the winter solstice and our friends in the northern hemisphere will celebrate the summer solstice. All round it is a powerful time in the cosmos and a potent time for change.
Let’s talk about la Luna, the moon for a bit –
Many moons ago (yes, relevant measurement of time) when I was working in a Mental Health Hospital training for my Psychiatric Nursing Registration much to my surprise, the psychologists and psychiatrists would acknowledge the full moon as a time to give “special” attention to certain patients or clients/residents as they are now called. I can say with confidence that over the nearly four years of nursing in a psychiatric hospital I observed firsthand the emotional and behavioural changes around the phases of the moon.
Lunacy is considered to be a form of insanity that was once considered to be in step with changes of the moon and hence the term lunatic. The name Luna is a Latin word for the moon and is one of the names given to the mythological Artemis, the moon goddess.
Of course I have also observed the impact of the phases of the moon through time with other people, myself included, natures wonderful creatures, vegetation, food crops and the ocean tides.
The moon represents our emotions and a full moon is a wonderful time to tap into the cosmic energy. It is time to become more mindful of and to let go of any of those negative or unresourceful emotions or behaviours that may be holding you back. Now would be a good time to let go of the people or “stuff” that no longer serve you or that you can serve. It’s a great time to practice forgiveness – a potent time for transformation.
You can check out my previous article “Letting go – Is holding on holding you back” for resources to help you with letting go and remember “Letting go is letting in.”
If you think of something as being full then there is no space, no room for anything else to enter, come into being and manifest hence the full moon being a time for letting go.
When thinking about a new moon consider the word “new” as the operative as the new moon phase of the lunar cycle is a wonderful time to think about and create new goals, set intentions and literally plant new seeds.
We are going to the moon that is not very far. Man has so much farther to go within himself. – Anais Nin
The Solstice –
The Winter solstice is an astronomical phenomenon – get ready for the shortest day and the longest night of the year. It is also a wonderful time for celebrations, food festivities and gratitude.
The summer solstice is also an astronomical phenomenon and occurs midsummer at the time of the longest day. It occurs around now in the northern hemisphere and around 22nd December in the southern hemisphere.
When it comes to the moon, remember too that we all look at the same moon so it’s also a time to gaze at the moon and hold those you love and care about in your heart and mind as they too will be looking at the same moon.
Now it is time to sit in mindfulness, embrace the cosmic energy and seize the circumstances to transform and enhance your business and life and of course have a good howl…
