To keep the body in good health is a duty…otherwise we shall not be able to keep out mind strong and clear. – Buddha
I haven’t posted for a while and I won’t be posting for a while again. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I had for the previous few weeks been in denial that the painful ring finger on my left hand had been in need of healing attention.
The condition I have is “Stenosing tenosynovitis” – a condition commonly known as “trigger finger.” OUCH and more ouch – inflammation and loss of some function (temporarily).
I am confident it will heal itself with me doing all the “right” things. One of the most important right things to do is to rest the finger/hand– no computer, wringing, squeezing, scrunching etc. As the inimitable Dr Chen also rightly told me in no uncertain terms during Sundays acupuncture session, “Too much coooooking, toooo much cooking…” How did he know that I’ve been cooking up some awesome winter culinary delights? That guy is psychic and a master of X-ray vision and worthy of a plug so here’s how to find him Master or Dr Chen He does specialize in neuro-muscular and musco-skeletal conditions so he’s a no go for those gut issues.
One of the great joys of having minimal time on the computer is that I am hand writing on paper. I am writing the content for a new project – big pieces of paper on the floor, lots of colored pens and connecting with the creative flow through more of my body and yes, resting my left hand.
In addition to some powerful Chinese medical intervention and upcoming Feldenkrais – also awesome and another plug, Margaret Kaye, Feldenkrais, I am focusing on self healing and using the power of my mind for a mind over matter approach. I am specifically doing the practice of Dynamic Meditation, an active form of meditation that involves visualization. I am practicing mind over matter techniques that I have learned (and taught) by doing virtual repairs on my finger.
There’s a lot more to Dynamic Meditation than what I’ve mentioned so maybe more on that in a future post and in the meantime here’s
10 tips to enhance healing for many a mind, body or spirit ailment

- Mindfulness – be mindful of your words, thoughts, feelings and actions
- Rest – less is better and slow is better
- Good nutrition – nutrient dense food and of course the occasional healthy treat i.e. organic dark chocolate
- Hydration – keep up your water intake
- Keep a sense of humour – laughter is great medicine and especially in the company of friends
- Remember that nothing is permanent – this too will change
As I’m following my practitioner’s and own advice, I am going to sign off however, not before leaving you with a link to an inspiring, mind bending and somewhat chilling article about mind over matter from Living Now magazine – “The Iceman is Coming” Read the article, it’s sure to inspire you to be mindful of the power of mind of matter – ice is optional.
